An Unfortunate Loss and A Great Win(10-6-07)
By Brittany Dunay #7

On Saturday October 6, 2007 the U-15 Grifo Girls played in the Discovery Cup tournament in Maryland .  The first game at was played against the Bethesda Dragons.  The morning was overcast with a little drizzle (perfect soccer weather).  The match started, and before we knew it the Dragons Offense was overpowering the Grifos Defense.   I took a major hit by one of the Dragons and found myself flying threw the air and hitting the ground with the Dragon player landing on top of me(OUCH)!   Within no time Kristin Hart was knocked down hurting her ankle and left the playing field for a couple of minutes.  Next thing you know Samantha Marri was taken down and also left the field with a knee injury.  As we only had 12 players all weekend this wasn’t going so well.   We held tough, but were not able to succeed.  The final score was 0-5.

The second game at was against the White Plains Elite.   Now the sun was out and it was very hot and humid (as the weathermen predicted).   The Grifos took the field like always, ready to play our game and not worrying about what happened earlier.  We had excellent passing and dominated the whole game.  Samantha Marri had 2 great goals (both headers off Michelle Mowrey’s corner kicks).  Quantera Lightner followed shortly with a goal from the right side. The final score was 3-0.
