We were told "You must play with intensity" by our coach Mike Composto before we stepped onto the pitch facing the strong opponents FC Bucks. So, that’s what the U-15 Grifos did. Once we crossed the touch line we became soccer players and our minds were focused on one objective and that was to win. The kick off whistle blew. The half started off quickly. Early on in the half the ball rolled off the field. It was reds throw in down by the Bucks net. The ball was thrown to Michelle Mowrey, who then dropped the ball wide to Christiana Nielsen. Christiana crossed the ball from the outside; the ball tumbled off the goalies hands and trickled into the net. The Grifos were now leading the game by one point.
The half was continued to be fought aggressively by both teams. Before the half ended the "fans" were brought to their feet, roaring by the sight of another beautiful goal placed into the corner of the net by Quantera Lightner, assisted by Samantha Marri. Sammy received the ball around the 50 yard line and played it up to Quantera for her to finish out the half 2-0. When the half time whistle blew the Grifos hustled off the field. Coach told us to play this game as if we were down 0-2 and to keep up the pressure and play with intensity. When the referee called us back onto the field we were ready to fight ’til the end.
The half started out in our possession. Through out the half we had many scoring opportunities. The score remained 2-0. But just minutes before the end of the game Megan "Louie" Hunsberger swiftly played the ball wide to Brittany Dunay. Britt carried the ball down the line and crossed it. Fortunately, the ball glided through the air directly into the net. The Grifos were now up 3-0 and this would be the resulting score. When the final whistle blew the Grifos jogged off the field victorious!
The Grifos came, fought, and conquered all! We spread our wings, blew our flames and flew away with a victory!!!
