The Grifos first opponent was the Highland Power from New York. A strong fast moving team with great ball possession ability and quick counter attacks. The Grifos struggled for the first half trying to shake the remnants of the confined space of indoor training.  Finally, a few minutes into the second half the Grifos found their form. Deep into the second half of play off a corner the Grifos found net with a brilliant header from striker Sarah Cardamone. The Grifos held on to come away with the day’s opener.

The second match against TESYA Charge who the Grifos played in their final 2007 PAGS match to a 3-2 win turned out to be another hard fought battle.  The Grifos with a regained form held possession and were very dangerous on the counter attack building out of the back four. Cardamone was able to strike in the first half, but TESYA soon equalized the score off a nicely placed free kick that rebounded off the post into the net. Deep into the second half with the Grifos in control of the match Taylor Millheim struck from 12 yds out to give the Grifos a 2-1 lead and the match.

It seemed by the third match the Grifos were full of confidence and were ready to play. The Grifos came out in a 3-4-3 formation for the final game of the day. The first few minutes found the back three under enormous pressure from Kirkwood.  However, the Grifos owned the midfield and built an attack exposing the flanks of their opponent. With shot after shot missing the Grifos entered half time 0-0.  Early in the second half Jess Casper entered the match at center forward,  Jess found the onion bag (net) three times in just 10 minutes giving the Grifos a 3-0 lead and the match with a 3-1 victory.

With Kirkwood ending the Grifos training until April, they will begin to prepare for their USL Super Y-league play beginning in June.
